This season is the perfect time to enjoy a bounty of fresh fruit and vegetables. Picking your own produce provides the family with a grassroots experience and makes the reward ever so sweeter when it’s the fruits of your own labour. Fruit picking is not only a fun and leisurely activity, but also reduces food miles and ensures you know exactly where your food is coming from. Below are some of the best places to sample and pick seasonal fruits and products.

STRAWBERRIES

  • Berrylicious Strawberries

Head to Berrylicious Strawberries on one of their special ‘pick your own strawberries’ days to return home with buckets of freshly picked strawberries. Bookings essential.

STONE FRUIT, APPLES, PERSIMMONS

  • Cedar Creek Orchard

    Cedar Creek provides a summer bounty including peaches and nectarines. Apples are available from January to June and persimmons can be found in autumn. Apple juice, apple cider

    and

    honey are produced all year round. Bookings essential.

  • Glenbernie Orchard

    Stone fruit is available from November-December and apples from January-April. Persimmons are available from late April. Apple cider vinegar and honey are produced all year round, Bookings essential.

FIGS, PRICKLY PEARS, EGGS

  • Leppington Valley Farm
    While they cannot be picked, fresh figs and prickly pears are available from mid December. Leppington also offers freshly laid eggs and dried figs are available year-round.
