As the second decade of the 21st Century enters its final year, we start looking towards the often made – and often ignored – New Year’s resolution.

Two of the most common New Year’s resolutions are to lose weight and save money. While physical and financial health are noble pursuits, they are also often the first to be forgotten. As such, we’ve decided to help you with some ideas for fun and more attainable New Year’s resolutions that you can accomplish right here in Catherine Park Estate. Lose Weight, Save Money

Okay, we know what we just said, but hear us out. For many people weight loss goals mainly revolve around joining a gym. The busiest period for many gyms – new memberships and visits – is the month of January. Makes sense, right? Make resolution, start resolution, give up on resolution. Actually, statistics[1] show that it takes three months for the typical individual to quit going to the gym after signing up in January.

Thankfully, Catherine Park Estate has exactly what you need to be able to achieve both goals. With an assortment of pathways, open spaces and communal gym equipment, you not only have all the facilities you need at your doorstep, but they’re also free to use.  Even though you may still be in the ‘time-poor’ category, not having to commute to a gym at the crack of dawn just to get in a workout will save you time, not to mention money on membership fees.

Make ‘getting outdoors’ one of your New Year’s resolutions for 2020. And, getting outdoors is something the design of Catherine Park Estate encourages residents to do. DIY projects

Okay, hear us out first - DIY projects as New Year’s resolutions can be a little like gym memberships. At first, we start out all gung-ho with DIY projects, but eventually it starts to slow down to the point of stopping altogether.

If this sounds like you, we suggest perhaps breaking it down into more manageable pieces and timeframes. Give yourself a couple of months to get a simple job done, like building some shelves. Stagger the stages of the project and try to achieve some progress on the job each week to keep to your timeline.

Make it ‘The Year of YOU!’

One of the most important – yet often ignored – resolutions that we all should make is to make this year about you. What do you want to achieve this year? Want to travel more? Chase after that dream job? Start or finish your degree? Whatever it may be, you need to have something in your life that’s all about you. When you have a family it’s hard to do that, because everything is about your children, but when you forget yourself something feels like it’s missing. So, make 2020 the year of you and find one thing that’s about and for you.
