Local crimson leaves to love

Autumn Shot April

Autumn is such a visually spectacular time in Macarthur. The exceptional crimson displays have been slowly mounting for the past few weeks and are almost in full force. They frame the beautiful natural landscapes all across the region and set a calm tone for this time of year.

Some of the best vantage points to see the autumn foliage in the local area are below.

1. Camden Valley Way, Camden

The trees that welcome visitors and locals into Camden have become famous for their autumnal displays. The row of deciduous oak trees around Macarthur Road, Elderslie, are such an iconic part of the landscape, heralding the season to the people who drive by. In autumn, their beautiful displays of red, amber and orange often have people stopping on the side of the road to take it all in, with some even taking photos.

2. Macarthur Park, Camden

More than 100 years old, opened in 1906 as a gift to the Camden community and lovingly tended to ever since. While famous for its heritage rose garden, it also has an excellent display of autumn colour that locals come to soak up at this time of year. It is a great day out, complete with some local history and memorial icons. Pack a picnic lunch and soak up the beautiful sights of the place.

3. Brownhill Loop Road, Brownhill Loop

Something of a local secret, Brownhill Loop Road is a magnificent sight all year round with a tunnel of trees, ferns and ground cover that encase the road. In autumn it is particularly special, with the magnificent sight of the autumn leaves on the tree branches and forming a carpet on the floor.

4. The Australian Botanic Garden, Mount Annan

The park was opened more than 30 years ago as part of the NSW Bicentennial project. Featuring more than 2000 species of plants, it provides a vivid display in all seasons and is a splendid venue for functions and casual meals alike. It attracts more than 400,000 visitors each year.

5. Harrington Park, Macarthur

It’s now been 25 years since the launch of Harrington Park and the multitude of gorgeous foliage planted over the years has matured and is now resplendent its full beauty. Grand, elegant trees now line the streets of Harrington Park, putting on quite the show throughout autumn. It’s well worth getting in your car and driving around Harrington Park and taking it all in this autumn.
